Church Mother
She is a blueprint.
She is a blessing.
She is our Mother.
Mother Lillie Bell Lundy of Statesboro, Georgia, embodies the sacred strength of the Black church mother—a woman whose very presence preaches. Her life is a witness to what faith, family, and fortitude can build across generations.
She was the devoted wife of the late William “Smokey” Lundy. Together, they built more than walls. They built a home where prayer was the foundation, love was the law, and service was expected. Mother Lundy served faithfully for 50 years at East Georgia Regional Medical Center until her retirement, caring for bodies with the same grace she’s always shown in tending to hearts. In and out of uniform, she was a healer.
The Lundy legacy flourishes through her children—William Jr. (Gwen), Sharon, Debra, Teresa (Reverend Daniel Perry), and Vivian (in memory )—who carry her values as an inheritance. The Lundy spirit flows through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, continuing her impact.
At Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church, she has been more than a member. She is the matriarch. The quiet storm. The keeper of tradition and the encourager of change. For decades, she has served without a spotlight, yet has shaped the lives of many. Her wisdom has supported Pastor Johnson, and her prayers have covered generations.

She was seated as Church Mother on May 11, 2025. She joins Mothers Jewell Love Tremble, Anna Lou Lundy Eason (1928-2019), and Janie L. Hill (1935-2024), who were so honored with this distinction. “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” — Proverbs 31:28
She is the kind of woman scripture was talking about.
She is not just honored. She is cherished.
She is not just a legacy. She is a living light.
And this house—her church, her people—will forever be grateful.
