GRADUATION RECOGNITION

Magnolia is proud to celebrate a meaningful milestone in the life of our church and community. Through the Magnolia Scholars Fund, the church distributed $10,000.00 this year to support students pursuing higher education.

Education is a tool of liberation

Under the leadership of Pastor Francys Johnson, Magnolia set a bold vision to invest meaningfully in the next generation. That vision reflects a deep conviction: supporting our young people is not simply an act of charity. It is a sacred calling. It is an act of faith in what God can do through them, an act of justice in a world that has too often denied access and opportunity, and an act of love for a future we may never fully see but are still called to help shape.

The Scholars Fund provides financial assistance to graduating seniors and students connected to the Magnolia community as they continue their educational journeys. Each award represents more than a check. It is a statement of belief. It says to our students: your church sees you, your church supports you, and your church believes in the gifts God has placed within you.

This year’s scholarship effort was made possible through the prayers, generosity, and commitment of the Magnolia family.

Magnolia’s commitment to education stands in a long and sacred tradition. Long before today’s students crossed graduation stages, our ancestors walked dirt roads in search of freedom, literacy, and opportunity. They built schools out of brush arbors and faith, sacrificed so that children could read, and dared to believe that the Black mind, fully freed, could change the world.

Here in Statesboro, that legacy includes the witness of Professor William James, an educator, civic leader, and founding force of Black advancement. His work helped establish William James High School, a beacon of excellence for Black students during segregation. His life reminds us that education was, and still is, a revolutionary act.

At Magnolia, we are not just handing out scholarships. We are building bridges between generations. We are helping close the opportunity gap. We are honoring the sacrifices of those who came before us by investing in those who will lead after us.

Every gift to the Scholars Fund is a seed planted in sacred soil. It nurtures Black excellence, strengthens families, honors our past, and fortifies our future.

As Jesus reminds us in Luke 12:48, “To whom much is given, much is required.” Magnolia gives thanks for every person who helped make this year’s Scholars Fund possible. Together, we are lifting as we climb, investing in our youth, honoring our legacy, and building our future.
